Tom Kyte

  • Name: Tom Kyte
  • Location: United States
  • Position: VP Core Technologies Group

Tom Kyte is Vice President of the Core Technologies Group. Before starting at Oracle, he worked as a systems integrator building large-scale, heterogeneous databases and applications, mostly for military and government customers. Tom spends a great deal of time working with the Oracle database and, more specifically, working with people who are working with the Oracle database. In addition, he is the Tom behind the AskTom column in Oracle Magazine, answering people’s questions about the Oracle database and its tools. He is also the author of Expert Oracle Database Architecture (Apress, 2005), Expert One on One Oracle (Wrox Press, 2001/Apress 2004), Beginning Oracle Programing (Wrox press, 2002/Apress 2004), and Effective Oracle by Design (Oracle Press, 2003). These are books about the general use of the database and how to develop successful Oracle applications.

Presentations

Tom will be presenting the keynote “Tom’s Top 12 Things About the Latest Generation of Database Technology”, and will also present The Real World Performance Tour together with Andrew Holdsworth and Graham Wood. In the Tour, these three Oracle rock stars will share their different perspectives on performance engineering. Through discussion, debate and demos, they’ll show you how to master performance engineering topics like:

  • Best practices for designing hardware architectures and how to spot and fix bad design.
  • How to develop applications that deliver the fastest possible performance without sacrificing accuracy.
  • Updates on Enterprise Manager, Exadata, and what these technologies mean to your current systems.

If you’re a DBA, Developer, or Enterprise Architect, and you’re ready to get away from messy customizations and slow processes, join them for the The Real World Performance Tour!

When you leave a Tour performance, you’ll have several easy-to-implement changes you can get started on right away, like evaluating your system architecture for performance killers, planning for faster data loads, and finding the root of performance issues vs creating more complicated code. However, the biggest take away from Real World Performance will be an in-depth understanding of how critical architecture is to system performance, security and accuracy, and the right tools and strategies for database deployment.

About US

The New Zealand Oracle Users Group was founded in 1989. This independent group is for all Oracle users and is a forum to share ideas and interests. We are always open to new ideas about how we can improve the NZOUG so please send through your ideas.
Since the merger of Oracle, Peoplesoft and JDE we have joined forces with the NZ Peoplesoft & JDE users to create a large user group to assist all "Oracle" users in New Zealand to maximise their return on the investment they have made in what is now Oracle Technology.
We look forward to working with all Oracle Users in New Zealand to achieve this goal.
